Dermatologists are medical doctors with 5+ years of specialized training who can diagnose diseases, prescribe medications, and perform surgery. Estheticians provide skin care treatments like facials and peels but cannot diagnose or prescribe. For medical skin concerns, you need a dermatologist.

In Canada, wait times range from 3-12 months for non-urgent referrals. Urgent cases (suspected skin cancer) are typically seen within 2-4 weeks. Cosmetic dermatology clinics often have shorter waits since they operate outside the public system.
